In this episode listen to Don Browne talk about his experience in a international start up in Ireland. Don explains how Generation X’rs who are looking for a career change and running into dead ends locally should consider looking international.
As discussed, I could cover the following areas of my work: Liturgical
- International Start-up.
- Travel every month
- Challenges of start up
- Positioning as consultant
Since April 2015, I’ve been working on the launch of Liturgical Publications International – a global offshoot of Liturgical Publications Inc in New Berlin. The new group was officially formed in Dublin, Ireland in November 2015 after a Test market I conducted in the first 6 months involving a couple churches in the Dublin area.
From April 2015 – May 2016, I was traveling to Ireland every month for 1-2 weeks on average, engaging in business development, hiring & training staff, and driving marketing initiatives.
I think that the purpose of my talk would be to show other Gen Xers in the area like myself (who are unemployed or underemployed) how to position themselves nationally.
- My New Writing Business
From May through September, I was downsized to a consulting role (at 2/3 salary) in order to save money for the start-up and help re-structure the organization, esp. with regards to driving sales.
During this time, I was able to work in an “agency” capacity, in which I could recruit and service other clients/companies looking for help with marketing. I found that there was a strong demand for the quality writing services I provide, and am currently servicing clients in different parts of the US. My sweet spot is those companies with downsized or skeletal marketing teams (often times with 1 full time staff) that could use help with writing on a multitude of projects. Many of these companies don’t have the budget or the willingness to hire more staff, so I give them tremendous efficiencies and value.
I work primarily on sales collateral pieces, blogs, and web content, but have also been approached about writing business plans. I can also do speech writing, ghost writing, corporate bios, articles, creative pieces, and writing for HR (including job descriptions, employee manuals and training guides).
NOTE: WE ARE STILL WAITING ON OUR LLC FOR THE WRITING BUSINESS, BUT I COULD CO-PROMOTE A DIGITAL MARKETING GROUP IN DOWNTOWN WAUKESHA THAT I AM INVOLVED WITH CALLED WURKHUB.
THEY USE ME FOR WRITING & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES, AND THEY DO EXCELLENT WORK FOR SMALL & LOCAL BUSINESSES, ESP. WITH REGARD TO WEBSITES, BRANDING, ETC.
